Frank Vogel discusses the mindset behind Lakers’ new roster additions

Los Angeles Lakers are in the midst of a very curious season after their dominant start, as they fell to the 5th seed in the Western Conference due to injuries in vital parts of their roster.

As they are waiting for the return of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the LA franchise added more depth to their team to face a tough series of injuries.

The Lakers’ head coach Frank Vogel explained the mindset behind the latest additions to the team’s roster as the “purple and gold” signed Andre Drummond and Ben McLemore.

(via Clutchpoints):

“If we’re going to add a player, we’re going to add somebody that has a skill set that we need,” Vogel said on Tuesday. “We want to add as many weapons as we can, and then use the next however many games are left throughout the season to get all of our players sharp for the playoffs.

So, that would be the mindset: to have all our weapons in rhythm, comfortable in our system, ready to go, so that in any given playoff series if that player’s skill set is needed, they’re ready to go. And that will be planned.”

The Lakers’ head coach could not refer to McLemore’s signing that time as the organization officially announced the addition of the veteran guard/forward a few hours later from Vogel’s statement.

The LA franchise is hoping for McLemore to add much-needed shot making from deep as the Lakers are struggling this season in that statistical category.

For his eight-year career, McLemore is a 36.3-percent shooter from three, while he amped up that percentage during the last two seasons making 40-percent of his attempts from deep.
