It was difficult for Lou Williams to accept the news that he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks after four years with the Los Angeles Clippers, therefore it took some time for him to reflect on his new role and responsibilities and his career opportunities.

The 34-year-old revealed that he did not join his new team immediately as he had to work himself through the reality of no longer being a Clipper. It has been reported that the reigning Sixth Man of the Year considered retiring.

“It took me a few days to get here because once I arrived, I wanted my energy to be positive, I wanted my experience to be positive and I didn’t want the guys to look at me like I didn’t want to be here,” Williams said, per Mirjam Swanson of The Press-Enterprise.

“It wasn’t personal against the Hawks, I just needed some time to figure out what was best for myself at this stage of my career, but now that I’m here and like I said, I’ve been embraced, the guys seem as if they want me here, so I’m ready to get back to work.”

This season, Williams averaged 12.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for the Clippers. The Hawks are currently on path to making the playoffs as they occupy the sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 23 wins and 24 losses. Meanwhile, his former team is one of the contenders and occupies the third place in the West.
