Celtics’ Jaylen Brown out Monday, Evan Fournier available to make debut

Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown will not play Monday against the New Orleans Pelicans due to a left hip contusion, but newly acquired Evan Fournier will make his Celtics debut, the team announced.

Brown suffered a few hard falls against the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 27 and at least one of those falls has caused him to miss this next game.

Fournier, who will immediately be thrown into the mix in a larger role, was acquired by the Celtics at the trade deadline from the Orlando Magic.

The 28-year-old is averaging 19.7 points (career-high), 2.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from three-point.

“He has great passion for the game … He’s going to be great for us. I can’t wait to get him acclimated,” said Kemba Walker on the addition of Fournier.

In addition to having Fournier make his team debut, the Celtics will also become the 20th of 30 NBA teams to admit a reduced capacity of fans this season.

This comes at a good time for the Celtics who begin a seven-game homestand on Monday.
