Mavs’ GM explains why Luka Doncic will make recruiting efforts easier for Dallas

Luka Doncic made the Dallas Mavericks relevant again since he entered the league back in 2018. Since then, the Mavericks decided to build around the Slovenian wonder kid.

The Mavs’ general manager Donnie Nelson claimed Doncic is a 6’7” hybrid of Steve Nash and Jason Kidd, when he talked about the recruitment efforts to bring talent to surround his superstar.

“It’s ironic that two of the greats… when I saw Luka play for the first time, I’m like, ‘Man, that’s a 6-foot-7 Steve Nash that can shoot it and this and that and the other thing, but he rebounds like Jason Kidd.’

To have [a player who’s a combination of] two of the greats that were right here in Dallas, it’s going to make our recruiting efforts a lot smoother,” Nelson said.

The Mavericks are based in one of the biggest markets of the NBA, while they had a player like Doncic, who has an attractive style of play considering he’s a great shot creator.

This season, Doncic is averaging 28.6 points, 9.1 assists, 8.3 rebounds, 2.9 threes and 1.0 steals shooting 46 percent from the field. More importantly, he still has time to grow at just 22.
