Pelicans sending JJ Redick to Mavericks, keeping Lonzo Ball

The New Orleans Pelicans are sending JJ Redick and Nicolo Melli to the Dallas Mavericks, according to Shams Charania.

In exchange, the Mavericks are sending James Johnson, Wes Iwundu and a 2021 second round pick to the Pelicans.

The Mavericks are acquiring two shooters in Redick, 36, and Melli, 30, to give them some much needed floor spacing.

Redick is under contract through this season, so this will likely only be a rental for the rest of the season for the Mavericks.

He has played in 110 playoff games in his career and will be a solid veteran presence.

On the other hand, the Pelicans will be keeping Lonzo Ball, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ball drew trade interest from several teams including the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks.

The 23-year-old is averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 31.7 minutes per game.
