James Worthy, Derek Fisher discuss trade deadline and the buyout market for Lakers

The NBA trade deadline is just hours away. The Los Angeles Lakers, like many other NBA teams, are included in various rumors. Two legends of the Lakers, James Worthy and Derek Fisher shared their thoughts on the coming trade deadline and how it could impact the reigning NBA champions.

Most recently, rumors surfaced that the team is willing to listen to trade offers for Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

According to Fisher, there is less of a chance that the Lakers make a trade rather than acquire a player via a buyout. He pointed at the fact that this is the first time when the trade deadline is during the Covid restrictions and it might not be in the best interest of the team to trade for a player who then has to quarantine in addition to needing an extra time to adjust to the new team.

Considering the above, signing a free agent is more feasible. Last season LA signed Markieff Morris, Dion Waiters and JR Smith in that way. Based on various reports the Lakers are linked with Andre Drummond, LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMarcus Cousins, George Hill, to name a few.

But even if a player that the Lakers want becomes available, Fisher thinks it would be really tough to decide who on the current roster does not get to play.
