Miami considered favorites to land LaMarcus Aldridge if Spurs buy him out

The Heat are still looking to add more pieces ahead of the trade deadline.

Miami is thought to be the most likely landing spot for LaMarcus Aldridge should the San Antonio Spurs buy him out of his contract. The Heat, who recently acquired Trevor Ariza in a trade deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, are still in the market for high-profile contributors and could look to make another move before Thursday’s trade deadline.

Kyle Lowry is thought to be a main target and, per reports, will either sign a new deal with the Toronto Raptors by the end of the week or join the Heat or Philadelphia 76ers by way of a trade. Larry Nance Jr. is also believed to be a target for the Eastern Conference side.

According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, NBA front-office executives view Miami as favorites to land Aldridge but the Portland Trail Blazers are also in the mix.

“The Heat are also considered by front-office executives as one of the favorites to land LaMarcus Aldridge if the Spurs buy out the veteran big. The Trail Blazers are also a threat to acquire Aldridge, sources say.”

While the Heat would have a lot to do in order to take on his $24 million salary, Aldridge could become a very interesting prospect if he reaches a buyout deal with the Spurs.
