Alfonzo McKinnie got a rare opportunity to play for the Los Angeles Lakers as his team faced the Golden State Warriors. It was his 19th game this season for the reigning NBA champions that have played 39 games. The 28-year-old forward spent 13 minutes on the floor, scoring 2 points and grabbing 4 rebounds during that time.

Frank Vogel, the head coach of the Lakers, shared his thoughts on McKinnie’s role with the team postgame. “He’s got to play in our system,” he said.

“That’s all we talked talked about all year is how to execute our offensive system, our defensive schemes, what our rules are. That’s what he’s being asked to do when he gets in there is to provide defense.

“Perimeter shooting is not going to be a primary offensive option for us like any of our guys are. They play off LeBron and AD when he’s in there, Dennis [Schroder]. I think he’s gotten a great feel without a lot of run for picking up what we’re asking him to do.”

This season, McKinnie is averaging 2.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists in 5.1 minutes per game.
