Gregg Popovich knows talent, when he sees it, and Ben Simmons is a unique player according to the Spurs’ veteran coach and five-time NBA champion.

In his statement prior to the Spurs’ matchup vs. the 76ers Sunday, Popovich said shooting will enhance Simmons’ game, however it’s not that important when he’s so proven in other parts of his game.

(via NBC Sports Philadelphia):

“It would enhance his game, obviously. That can’t be argued with. But all of his physical skills, basketball skills, the way the understands the game, as unselfish as he is — he’s so elite already, who gives a damn if he can’t shoot.”

Simmons is expected to return in action vs. San Antonio after missing the last two games due to health and safety protocols.

With Embiid out, Simmons will have to take over for the Sixers in Sunday’s contest. The point forward has made two threes this season and he has four in his NBA career.

Simmons is averaging 16.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game shooting nearly 58 percent from the field and a career-high 67 percent from the free-throw line this season.
