In January, Shaquille O’Neal poured some criticism on Donovan Mitchell telling him he doesn’t have what it takes to get to the next level. The Utah Jazz star remained calm during the interview. ‘Aight’ was his response.

The 24-year-old shooting guard recently revealed that he was not bothered by O’Neal’s comments. Mitchell explained that his response was meant to say that he is okay with Shaq having such opinion.

Via Tony Jones of The Athletic:

“It didn’t really bother me,” Mitchell said. “I thought it was blown out of proportion, but that’s just the media in general. When I said ‘Aight,’ for me it meant that’s cool, and that’s your opinion and it’s OK to have an opinion. I play to make sure that I’m the best player I can be for myself and my teammates. “Shaq isn’t my coach. If he doesn’t agree that I’m a superstar, that’s cool. I just have to go out and make sure that I play for my teammates.”

This season, Mitchell is averaging 24.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game for the Western Conference leaders. He was selected for the All-Star Game for the second straight year.
