The 2003 NBA Draft saw some of the league’s iconic players such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh enter the league.

One of the biggest surprises was Darko Milicic going as the number two pick, just behind James. The Serbian center struggled to make an impact on the NBA and went down in history as one of the most disappointing draft picks.

Anthony and James were friends and expected to be the top two picks in the draft. The two talked about how LeBron will be in Cleveland and Carmelo near him in Detroit. However, it didn’t go as planned and the Pistons took Milicic, pushing Anthony to the number three pick which belonged to the Nuggets.

“And as he [LeBron James] gets called, I get the call, my agent is there like Detroit is up next, Detroit taking Darko [Milicic]. I’m like what?” Melo remembered the draft night, per Lindsey Wisniewski of NBC Sports.
