Five teams expected to pursue Blake Griffin after buyout

After reaching a buyout with the Detroit Pistons, Blake Griffin is expected to make a decision on his next team after conversations with prospective teams in the near future, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors are among the teams that have expressed interest in Griffin once he becomes an unrestricted free agent, notes Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Griffin, 31, will spend two days on waivers before he’s officially available to sign with a new team.

He hasn’t played since Feb. 15 after his agent and the Pistons mutually agreed that he wouldn’t be a part of the active roster as they awaited a possible trade or buyout.

The Pistons have entered a full-on rebuild under first-year general manager Troy Weaver and the opportunity to get a look at the team’s younger players has taken precedence.

Griffin, a six-time All-Star, is averaging 12.3 points (career-worst), 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists this season.
