The Los Angeles Lakers are not allowed to sign or trade for JaVale McGee, according to NBA Insider Bobby Marks of ESPN.

As Marks reports, via Silver Screen and Roll, the Lakers can’t sign or trade for McGee, because they traded him less than a year ago.

The only way that McGee can return to the defending champions is if the Cleveland Cavaliers trade him to another team and then that team buys him out, per Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.

McGee spent two years with the Lakers (2018-2020), winning the NBA championship last season. For their part, the Lakers are in search for a big man before the trade deadline on March 25.
