The Phoenix Suns, even without Devin Booker for the end of the game, were able to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers that were without Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma and Marc Gasol. Two Lakers’ legends James Worthy and Derek Fisher shared their insights from the game.
“They [the Suns] showed tonight why their record is what it is, why they’ve been playing well, why they have a system that works,” Worthy said on Spectrum SportsNet.
“They don’t depend on just one player. I know Booker is their star player. But we fell asleep on Bridges. I think the Lakers got a little distracted with some of the calls they didn’t get or some of the calls that were made that kind of slowed the momentum a little bit. They just could’t play through that. Tip the hat off to Phoenix. They played well. The Lakers were a little shorthanded, foul trouble. Phoenix played well. They shoot the ball extremely well. The Lakers couldn’t find a three-point tonight.”
According to Fisher, the Suns got comfortable with their shot early in the game. “Once a team starts to feel confident and comfortable with making shots in your gym, it’s hard to turn that water off,” he said.
“This was the game that was more important for the Suns than it was the Lakers. The Suns were trying to size themselves up, trying to really see where they are at, can they complete with the upper echelon teams in the West. Even though there was no AD, no Gasol etc., this was one of those matchups they really really wanted to get.”
