Zion Williamson, other players not joining Dunk Contest

New Orleans Pelicans All-Star Zion Williamson won’t participate in the 2021 NBA Dunk Contest, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

The 20-year-old recently made comments that seemed to leave the door open for a possible debut in the dunk contest.

“Who knows? That’s all I can say,” Williamson told reporters on Feb. 24. “Who knows? I might. You never know.”

Minnesota Timberwolves Rookie Anthony Edwards, Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown and Charlotte Hornets’ Miles Bridges also all declined to participate in the Dunk Contest, notes Haynes.

So far, the current participants in the event include New York Knicks rookie Obi Toppin, Portland Trail Blazers’ Anfernee Simons and Indiana Pacers rookie Cassius Stanley.

The NBA will officially announce the participants for this year’s dunk contest tonight.
