It is still only the middle of this season, however, the NBA teams are planning ahead. ESPN’s NBA insider Brian Windhorst took a look at the Los Angeles Lakers’ situation during the coming offseason. The reigning NBA champions are in luxury tax for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.

The Lakers made moves this past offseason by signing extensions with LeBron James and Kyle Kuzma, also signed new contracts with Anthony Davis, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell.

Theses contracts will add an extra financial burned on the team which might make it difficult to keep some of the role players, namely Alex Caruso and Talen Horton-Tucker.

According to Windhorst, Caruso and Horton-Tucker are expected to draw significant interest from other teams. Both of them could be getting full midlevel exception which is $9.5 million.

Depending on the moves that the Lakers make, they might be unable to keep both or one of the two players.
