DeMarcus Cousins has emerged as a candidate to join the Miami Heat, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Cousins was waived by the Houston Rockets earlier this week and is expected to clear waivers on Thursday.

“The league source said Cousins – who is expected to clear waivers at 5 p.m Thursday – is one of a handful of players that the Heat internally has discussed and been considering, a group that also includes San Antonio’s Rudy Gay (if he’s made available in a trade), Sacramento’s Nemanja Bjelica (said to be available), Houston’s PJ Tucker (said to be available) and Detroit’s Blake Griffin (but only if he’s released),” Jackson reports.

In 25 games and 11 starts with Houston, Cousins averaged 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Meanwhile, the Heat are eighth in the East, at 15-17.
