Chris Broussard: “LeBron has lost his lead in the MVP race”

The period without Anthony Davis is a test of LeBron James’ MVP case, according to sports analyst Chris Broussard. In his opinion, the four-time NBA champion was overtaken in the MVP race by Joel Embiid. Though the race is not over and James can still emerge as the winner.

“As far as MVP race, LeBron has lost his lead. I said on these airwaves last week: this stretch without AD LeBron would either increase his lead and get a sizeable advantage in MVP race or he would come back to the pack. And he’s come back to the pack clearly,” Broussard said on UNDISPUTED.

“This doesn’t mean his case is over. There are 40 games left. A lot is to happen not only with the Lakers but with other teams, other guys that are in this MVP hunt. So no, his case is not over but he no longer has the lead. If I had to vote today, it would be Joel Embiid,” Broussard said on UNDISPUTED.

This season, James is averaging 25.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 8.1 assists in 35 minutes per game. The Lakers are on a three-game losing streak. Their latest defeat came in game against the Wizards in which LeBron missed a game-winning free throw.
