Dallas Mavericks focused on adding a center alongside Kristaps Porzingis, per report

Dallas Mavericks are interested in adding a center ahead of the March 25th trade deadline to supplement Kristaps Porzingis, who’s struggling on the defensive end.

According to Bleacher Report, the Mavs would want to add a player like Andre Drummond alongside the Latvian big. Porzingis is still an offensive force, averaging 20 points on nearly 36 percent shooting from deep.

“For now, Dallas appears first interested in adding a center to help supplement Porzingis, sources said.

The Mavericks have circled Andre Drummond as the Cleveland Cavaliers look to move in a different frontcourt direction of their own, but Dallas has expressed no interest in parting with Porzingis in those particular talks.

“They want a big to pair with him,” one league source said. “Obviously with physicality, rebounding, toughness.”

According to the same report, Dallas is gauging the market for Porzingis, however, for now, they are focused on helping him by adding a defensive minded center alongside him.

Porzingis suffered a torn meniscus last summer, and he missed the first nine games of the 2020/21 season. He is under a five-year, $158M contract with Dallas.
