Field confirmed for FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Pre-Qualifiers Second Round

The field for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Pre-Qualifiers Second Round was confirmed following the conclusion of the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers on Monday.

With Belarus, Iceland, Portugal and Slovakia emerging from the First Round of the Pre-Qualifiers, the remaining eight places in the 12-team field for the Second Round were filled by teams from the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers.

After failing to qualify for the 41st edition of the Europe’s flagship event, Austria, Denmark, Latvia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland will begin their journey to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 from the Second Round of the European Pre-Qualifiers, set to take place in August 2021.

Switzerland

The 12 participating teams will compete in four groups of three teams each for a total of eight berths in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers, with the top two nations from each group qualifying.

The date and the seedings for the draw will be confirmed at a later stage.

The 24 national teams participating in the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Final Round are guaranteed places in the 32-team Qualifiers, which will send 12 European nations to the World Cup.

Set to take place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will mark the first time FIBA’s pinnacle event is staged in multiple countries.
