Timberwolves’ D’Angelo Russell not traveling with team

Minnesota Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell is not on the team’s current two-game road trip due to left leg soreness, according to head coach Ryan Saunders.

Russell will be out against the Charlotte Hornets tonight and against the Toronto Raptors on Feb. 14.

“He’s continuing to progress and I don’t have other information other than they’re just continuing to evaluate him,” said Saunders.

Russell, 24, has still only played five games with teammate Karl-Anthony Towns since Russell came to the Timberwolves in a trade with the Golden State Warriors last season.

Ricky Rubio will continue to start in Russell’s place and second-year guard Jaylen Nowell will continue to get more minutes off the bench, as he has scored in double figures in eight of his 11 games played this season.

In 20 games, Russell is averaging 19.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
