LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton named Rookies of the Month

Charlotte Hornets’ LaMelo Ball and Sacramento Kings’ Tyrese Haliburton have been named Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month.

The award was for games in the first month of the season from Dec. 22 to Jan. 31.

In the Hornets’ 20 games during that time, Ball averaged 12.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game, as the Hornets went 9-11.

Ball became just the seventh player with at least 225 points, 115 rebounds and 115 assists through the player’s first 20 career games.

The 19-year-old ranked third in points, second in rebounds, first in assists and first in steals per game among rookies while ranking tied for 17th in assists and tied for 13th in steals per game in the NBA over that time.

In the Kings’ 19 games during the first month, Haliburton averaged 10.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game, as the Kings went 8-11.

Haliburton, 20, currently ranks sixth amongst all rookies in scoring, tied for eighth in rebounds, second in assists, seventh in field goal percentage (.465), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.409) and fifth in steals per game.
