Kyrie Irving explains why he smiled during Collin Sexton’s 42-point performance vs. Nets

Kyrie Irving had his first game back since Jan. 4 experiencing a double-overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Nets’ superstar was pretty hyped to get back on the court playing a career-high 48 minutes.

In the post-game media session, Irving showed his appreciation for the game revealing why he smiled despite losing the game during Collin Sexton’s 42-point explosion.

“Two overtimes for my first game back?” Irving said, via Tom Withers of The Associated Press. “You gotta love NBA ball, though. I was smiling when Collin Sexton was making those shots.”

Sexton hit one shot after another during the double-overtime finishing the game with a career-high 42 points. The vast majority of them (22 points) came in the extra 10 minutes of the game.

Kyrie Irving also had quite the game dropping 37 on 15-for-28 shooting from the field. The Nets will have the chance to play again the Cavs on Friday in hope of getting a win this time.
