Guy Pnini undergoes Achilles tendon surgery, out indefinitely

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv announced on Tuesday that team captain Guy Pnini had undergone Achilles tendon surgery early in the day after being injured in an Israeli League game on Monday evening.

The club did not say how much time Pnini is expected to miss, but the prognosis in most injuries of that type that require surgery is measured in several months or more. Pnini played just two minutes before going down in pain on Monday before Maccabi lost to Hapoel Tel Aviv 58-78.

Pnini left the arena on crutches.

The announcement said he was operated on successfully Tuesday morning after an evaluation by team medical staff. Pnini, 31, is in his sixth season with Maccabi, the longest of any member of the current team.

He grew up in the Maccabi youth program. Pnini averaged 9.5 points on 46.7% three-point shooting in four Turkish Airlines Euroleague games this season and was a starter on last season’s Maccabi squad that won the Euroleague title in Milan.
