Pistons’ Killian Hayes avoids surgery, expected to be re-evaluated in 8 weeks

The Detroit Pistons’ rookie Killian Hayes will be out for at least eight weeks with a hip injury, according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN. The team announced he will be treated with rest and rehabilitation until his injury’s re-evaluation.

He picked up the injury in a Jan. 4 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks and has not returned to the court since. The No. 7 overall pick of the 2020 Draft, Hayes was instantly inserted in Detroit’s starting lineup.

He averaged 4.6 points and 3.6 assists in seven appearances shooting a concerning 27.7% from the field. With the rookie unable to play, Derrick Rose and Delon Wright are expected to share the starting point-guard duties.

With the current timetable, Hayes is not expected to return to action before the mid-season All-Star break in March. Hayes has already missed six games since his hip issue occurred on January 4.

The Pistons have only won three times in the first 13 games of the season as the franchise is on a ‘rebuild state’ since the past offseason under new general manager Troy Weaver.
