Kyrie Irving expected to play Wednesday

Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash said he expects Kyrie Irving to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 20.

Nash also confirmed that Irving practiced today for the first time in over two weeks.

Irving, who has been out since Jan. 5 due to personal reasons, told the media “there’s been a lot of family and personal stuff” going on the last two weeks.

“Very excited to be back with my teammates,” said Irving. “They had my back and supported me and my family. I take full accountability for my actions. Had a conversation with each and every one of them.”

Irving also apologized to fans he disappointed by not playing.

“I am back, I am happy to be back, we got some great pieces and we move on and I let my actions and my game speak for itself like I planned on doing,” said Irving. “I just needed a pause. With everything going on in the world, it’s hard to ignore.”

The 28-year-old will join a new-look Nets team that features arguably the best trio in the NBA of Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden.

This season, Irving is averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
