Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns has announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Statement by Towns posted on Twitter:
“Prior to tonight’s game, I received yet another awful call that I tested positive for COVID. I will immediately isolate and follow every protocol. I pray every day that this nightmare of a virus will subside and I beg everyone to continue to take it seriously by taking all of the necessary precautions. It breaks my heart that my family, and particularly my father and sister continue to suffer from the anxiety that comes along with the diagnosis as we know all too well what the end result could be.”
Towns lost seven family members to COVID-19-related deaths, including his mother, Jackie.
As a result, the Timberwolves’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies scheduled for Friday has been postponed due to health and safety protocols.
The Timberwolves are going through contact tracing and do not have the league-required eight players available.
The team also recently announced that Ricky Rubio and Juan Hernangomez have entered the league’s health and safety protocols, as Hernangomez entered isolation and will be out for at least 10 days.
The organization has had two positive COVID-19 tests over the last two days and one player is in the league’s contact tracing protocols, according to President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas.
