Due to various injuries and health problems caused by Covid-19 the Philadelphia 76ers were able to use just seven players in a game against the Denver Nuggets. While this may have put the Sixers at a disadvantage against their opponents, it was also a great opportunity for the rookie Tyrese Maxey.

The 20-year-old shooting guard played 44 minutes in what was his first NBA start of the season. Even though his team lost 103-115, this will be a game Maxey will remember for a long time. He dropped 39 points which was the most in a rookie’s first start since 1970.

In addition to that, Maxey came very close to a record held by Allen Iverson. His 39 points are the most by a Sixers rookie since AI dropped 40 points versus the Washington Bullets on April 14, 1997, as reported by Cody Taylor of USA Today.

The rookie was obviously in a positive mood after a historic performance. “I have no complaint. I’m blessed. I woke up this morning the Lord woke me up this morning, he blessed me to do what I love to go out there and play basketball and compete for a win for our team,” he said after the game.
