The Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate in South Bay will not participate in the 2021 season, the team announced on Friday.

The games for the new season are going to take place at the Disney World complex in Orlando, Florida. The South Bay’s team decided that the best course of action for the Lakers’ organization was to not take part to the new season.

“The South Bay Lakers announced today that they have opted out of the upcoming NBA G League’s single-site season,” the team refer in its statement.

While we appreciate the G League’s efforts in putting together this model to accommodate all member teams, we have determined this is the best course of action for the Lakers organization.

We look forward to our eventual return to G League basketball. In the meantime, we will continue to assign opportunities to our staff as they become available.”

The G League season is set to begin on February 8th and the teams are expected to play 12-15 games in the regular season before beginning the playoffs.
