Celtics’ Robert Williams tests positive for COVID-19; two other Celtics out

Boston Celtics center Robert Williams was the lone player to test positive for COVID-19, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe.

Williams has reportedly been asymptomatic.

Tristan Thompson and Grant Williams are also out for contact tracing and will be required to quarantine for a minimum of seven days.

Carsen Edwards, who was originally thought to be a close contact, won’t have to quarantine for contact tracing and will be available for the team’s next game against the Washington Wizards on Jan. 8.

Without Thompson, Robert Williams and Grant Williams, the Celtics will be shorthanded in the frontcourt for the next few games.

The team will lean more on players like Daniel Theis and Semi Ojeleye.

It’s possible that Tacko Fall could also enter the rotation.

Head coach Brad Stevens also figures to use small-ball lineups with Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown playing the four spot.
