Daily Gossip, Tuesday 28/10/14

Let’s be honest, we all have, at times enjoyed watching the World Wrestling Federation, now WWE [World Wrestling Entertainment]. A famous catchphrase from one of its current wrestlers, The Rock, better known as the actor Dwayne Johnson was “Know your Role and SHUT YOUR MOUTH”. Remember that? Well, one NBA player has vowed to be doing that very thing this season.

HIBBERT WILL BE SILENT

Indiana Pacers big man Roy Hibbert has often said the wrong thing and occasionally has done the wrong thing, and he wants that to end now.

Hibbert has worked with legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar over the off-season and he has done a bit of maturing.

Via the Indy Star:

When the Indiana Pacers’ rim protector walks through a crowded room at the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte, he chooses the back corner seat. When he speaks, he looks away. And when he reveals his solution to his radical decline through the second half of last season, he gruffly says that he will “make sure I just shut my mouth, go out there and compete.”

“He really lost sight of what worked and what didn’t work,” says Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, evaluating his latest pupil. “Things just seemed to fall apart, but that’s behind us.” […] This summer, instead of committing to bulking up in the weight room, Hibbert turned within. More specifically, he turned to yoga, Pilates and, of course, Kareem. He meditates. He eats an insane amount of asparagus but also leaves room for the good stuff like pulled BBQ chicken sandwiches that dropped his weight to 274 at the start of camp.

“I had to change,” Hibbert says, and this is coming from the over-sharer who posted 20 photos during 31 days last August, including a picture of artificially flavored Dr. Pepper bubble gum. […] “I made a conscious decision. The way that I played the last playoffs and the second half of the year, whatever I say is going to be scrutinized. So I say, the best way (is) to pull back a little bit because people think you’re going to be focused on the wrong things.”

JORDAN’S COLLECTION OF SNEAKERS (DROOLS)

When Jordan’s are re-released, people generally go nuts.

Charlotte Hornets GM Michael Jordan took over his team’s social media account and apart from the selfies, pictures of the arena and his players’ changing room.. He took a picture of his personal sneaker collection.

All Jordans. ALL in the colours of the Hornets.

Close your mouths, people.

PLAYERS LIVE THE GOOD LIFE … BUT NOT THE CHEERLEADERS

The NBA dancers of the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets have reportedly unhappy with their pay.

NBA dancers make some dancers make roughly between $25- to-$28 an hour for twice-weekly practices, and $175 per game. Teams don’t cover the dancers for health insurance.

Via New York Post:

Cheerleaders — or dancers as they are called — for the Knicks and for the Brooklyn Nets will pull in $200 or less a game and receive no health insurance coverage from their teams. […] “There is no way to live off that money,” Cherielee Passalaqua, a former New Jersey Nets hype team member who now cheers for the NBA, said.

“You’re choosing to put on those shorts where you’re bottom’s hanging out, and a push-up bra, and that makeup,” she said. “You’re there because you love to dance.”

Pay for cheerleaders across professional sports has become a hot-button issue this year as dancers for National Football League teams have filed lawsuits against their employers alleging grueling conditions and sub-minimum wage pay. […] The Oakland Raiders’ cheerleaders won a $1.25 million wage theft lawsuit against the team last month after claiming they were paid as little as $5 an hour and were fined for forgetting their pom-poms.

Unless you’re between the ages of 14-17 and are just starting to like girls. Does anyone care?? They’re getting paid for doing what they love. That’s surely enough, right?
