Liga Endesa round up for week 4 as the league pays tribute to José Luis Abós

Three of the five Euroleague teams are still undefeated as the Liga Endesa takes a little more shape. One of them is still in the top four, where as Laboral Kutxa are struggling early at 1-3.

EUROLEAGUE WATCH

Defence was definitely the order of the day as Barcelona beat Gipuzkoa 57-43 in a game that saw only 28 points scored in the first two quarters.

The Catalan side though showed mental toughness to get the win. Ante Tomic was the only player to score in double digits for Barca with 10 points. Daniel Diaz had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. He was the only player in double figures for Gipuzkoa.

Real Madrid defeated Tenerife 93-82 on the road as well to stay unbeaten. Veteran Andres Nocioni led the winners with 14 points.

Unicaja Malaga were the third Euroleague away victors that remained at 4-0 as they beat Gran Canaria 74-67 in an intriguing contest.

Ryan Toolson went 6/9 from the field, en route to 18 points for Unicaja.

Valencia are 3-1 in the league as they beat Estudiantes 84-67 at home. Rafa Martinez led the victors with 17 points, which included four three-pointers.

While the majority of the Euroleague sides are faring well, the same can not be said for Laboral Kutxa, even though they secured their first win of the new season, beating Bilbao 86-74, they are still 1-3.

Fernando San Emeterio led the Vitoria side with 15 points.

AROUND SPAIN…

Daniel Perez missed a wide-open three-point attempt on the buzzer for Fuenlabrada as they lost 69-67 to Zaragoza. Jason Robinson paced the winners with 15 points.

Rio Monbus were impressive in their 78-72 road win against Joventut Badalona. Demond Mallet’s impressive 21 points for the Catalan side was cancelled out by Maxi Kieber’s 19.

UCAM Murcia produced the performance of the Liga Endesa rounds as they swept winless Seville 98-68 at home as 20 points from Scott Wood, including six triples saw them home.

Bruixa d’Or secured their first win of the season, beating newcomers Andorra 88-80. The hosts hit 31 points in the final quarter to seal the win.

Note: Before all Liga Endesa games, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of legendary coach José Luis Abós, who passed away last week.
