The San Antonio Spurs and Becky Hammon made history on Wednesday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers as the WNBA legend became the first woman to serve as a head coach in NBA history.

Gregg Popovich was ejected in the second quarter of the game and Hammon stepped up to become the first female acting coach in league history.

Hammon is working towards becoming an NBA head coach as a lead assistant of the San Antonio Spurs the last couple of seasons.

She is a member of the Spurs’ staff since 2014. Eventually, Hammon will have her chance as a permanent NBA head coach on the Spurs’ organization or in another NBA team.

In the last few seasons, the WNBA legend interviewed for several head coaching positions including the Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers.
