Ja Morant is ready to take the league by storm, after winning the Rookie of the Year award last season. The Grizzlies’ sophomore scored 44 points against the San Antonio Spurs in the 2020/21 season opener.

The Grizzlies could not secure the victory despite Morant’s monster performance. The Murray State product went on to put 44 on 18-from-27 shooting adding nine assists and two rebounds.

Of course, that was a career night for Morant, who scored 40+ points for the first time in his young NBA career. No other Memphis’ player scored more than 16 points in the game, which ended up on a loss for the Grizzlies.

Morant had a strong preseason and his incredible form continued in the first regular season game. The only player to record more than 44 points in his first game of his second NBA season was the legendary Elgin Baylor.
