2014-15 Liga Endesa round up (week 2)

Week two of the new Liga Endesa campaign saw Valencia get their season off and running at the second attempt and one of last season’s strugglers Murcia start a perfect 2-0 following a string of impressive showings.

But the game of the round comes to us from the microstate.

A game-winner from Axel Herville gave Bilbao a 76-75 road win over Liga Endesa newcomers Andorra after a session of overtime.

Bilbao remains unbeaten this season but were given a fright by a Victor Sada-led Andorra side, who nearly claimed their first win of the season, but for the Belgian’s heroics.

Marko Todorovic’s impressive haul of 22 points and 11 rebounds so nearly counted for nothing though, but in the end, it was contribution to Bilbao’s win.

Thomas Schreiner led the Andorrans with 14 points.

Valencia collected their first win of the new campaign with a routine 96-73 home win over Seville, who are still yet to register a victory.

Kresimir Loncar led Valencia with 19 points, with Romain Sato adding 18 in the win, as they trailed after the first quarter but stormed out of the blocks eventually in the second period.

Unicaja Malaga recorded an 88-79 success over rivals Laboral Kutxa on the road in Vitoria.

A strong first half showing was the difference for Unicaja, as they led 49-27 at the break and never looked back. Laboral tried gallantly to bring the deficit back, but it was too high a task.

Ryan Toolson and Lithuanian international Mindaugas Kuzminskas each amassed 15 points to lead the winners.

UCAM Murcia improved to 2-0 following a hard-fought 71-66 win at Fuenlabrada.

Carlos Cabezas led the visitors with 16 points in the win.

Real Madrid are also 2-0, albeit more expected after they comfortably saw-off Gipuzkoa 90-76 in the Basque Country.

Sergio Rodriguez, now hitting form with his club after a nightmare World Cup for country led Madrid with 19 points, which included himself connecting on all three of his 3-point attempts.

Will Hanley hit 18 for Gipuzkoa.

The other games in round number two saw Joventut Badalona defeated Estudiantes 65-60 in Catalunya. Gran Canaria ease past Rio Monbus 72-57 and Zaragoza beat Tenerife on the road 67-66 thanks to a game-winning jumper from Jason Robinson.

Barcelona travel to play Bruixa D’Or on Tuesday.
