Caris LeVert has accepted a new role from the Brooklyn Nets this season, but will thrive and has the potential to win the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award.

The fifth-year guard out of Michigan will be starting off the bench this season but will have a large number of minutes and freedom.

With the return of Kevin Durant from injury, LeVert will be the third head in a powerful trio. Last night, in the opening game win against the Golden State Warriors, the three combined for 68 points. Durant marked his return with 22, Kyrie Irving scored 26 and LeVert added 20.

Game Recap: Nets 125, Warriors 99

The former Michigan Wolverine finished the game with 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. However, he shot 35.3% from the field but 60% from behind the arc.

Brooklyn has seen an increased output from the 26-year-old every year since he was drafted in 2016. A breakout season from him last season solidified his place in the future for the Nets. In 45 games, he averaged 18.7 points and shot 43% from the field.

With the advanced role from the bench this season, LeVert will have the freedom and time to thrive in the newly formed Nets offense. New head coach, Steve Nash, told Slam Caris is a starter. Will he start for us? I’m not sure.” Clearly Nash has made his mind up and I think it is better for the team and LeVert himself.

Caris is a natural ball handler and can create his own shot and finish around the rim strongly.

You will see a strong productive season coming from LeVert, one which will push him forward in the race for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award.
