Kyle Kuzma is entering a crucial season for his career, as he will become a restricted free agent in the 2021 offseason. The forward met with Frank Vogel and Rob Pelinka to discuss his role for the new season at the beginning of the month.

According to Kyle Goon of SCNG:

“Kuzma met with Vogel and General Manager Rob Pelinka at the beginning of the month to feel out his role for the season, a person with knowledge of the situation told SCNG, and to get a sense for his future with the organization. Kuzma came away from the meeting with a sense that he would have to scrap for on-court opportunities.”

The Lakers have a deep roster this season, especially after acquiring Dennis Schröder and signing Montrezl Harrell the past offseason.

As Goon reports, general manager Rob Pelinka could still meet with Kuzma to discuss a contract extension, however ‘there was no definite plan to do so as of Thursday afternoon’.

This year, Kuzma will make most of his minutes in the small forward position, after the Lakers signed Montrezl Harrell and brought back Markief Morris.

He is expected to face fierce competition, as the Lakers committed long-term to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, while Talen Horton-Tucker has also made a statement in the preseason with some incredible performances.
