The Orlando Magic have exercised their fourth-year team option on center Mo Bamba, the team announced.

Bamba’s $5.97 million salary for the upcoming season was already fully guaranteed, so today’s move also guarantees his $7.5 million salary for the 2021-2022 season.

This move also puts him on track for a rookie scale extension during the 2021 offseason, but if he doesn’t sign a new deal then, he would become a restricted free agent in 2022.

Bamba, 22, previously struggled with complications and effects from COVID-19 since the summer, causing him to miss the NBA restart in Orlando.

He says he’s no longer dealing with symptoms, as he works on getting his conditioning back and hasn’t yet been cleared for contact in practice.

He averaged 5.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game (14.2 minutes per game) in 62 games last season.
