Boston Celtics newly acquired center Tristan Thompson will miss most of training camp because of a hamstring strain, according to head coach Brad Stevens.

Stevens also said that the Celtics hope to have Thompson “ramped up” by the opening regular season game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Dec. 23.

If Thompson ultimately misses any games, Daniel Theis and Robert Williams will handle the minutes at center.

The Celtics signed Thompson to a two-year, $19 million deal in free agency to help bolster their frontline depth.

Last season, Thompson averaged 12.0 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in 57 games.

The Celtics will be the only other team Thompson has played for, as he has spent his entire NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
