Ja Morant was the recipient of the Rookie of the Year award last season, after an incredible first season with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Morant’s individual success brought the Grizzlies to the brink of entering the playoffs in Orlando. In the end, Memphis fell short with the Murray State product admitting he played with a significant leg injury in the NBA season restart during his recent interview with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

“I will be honest now. I was in a lot of pain,” he said. “But, I was trying to do whatever I could to help my team win. I wanted to make it to the playoffs, therefore I had to put my body on the line and fought with my teammates.”

The 21-year-old guard put up 19.0 and 9.9 assists per contest in Orlando, but he shot just 39% from the field and 22% from the three-point range.

In his first 59 games of his career, until March, Morant shot 49% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc finishing the first part of the season with 17.8 points and 7.7 assists per game.
