LeBron James has agreed to a two-year max deal worth $85 million with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Charania cites James’ agent Rich Paul as a source.

The four-time NBA MVP led the Lakers to a championship at the end of his second season in the purple and gold, having missed out on the second half of his first campaign with the side through injury. He’s of the view the Lakers could make another run at the title next year.

His initial deal included a $41 million player option for the 2021/22 season but the veteran superstar has agreed to commit more of his future to the franchise.

James averaged 25.3 points, a league-high 10.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game for the Lakers last season. He was also named the Finals MVP after an incredible run to his fourth title alongside superstar teammate Anthony Davis.

The new deal will see King James remain on the Lakers roster through to 2023, which would mark 20 seasons in the NBA. It’s also the year his son Bronny graduates from high school and, should he be allowed to enter the Draft then, could possibly play in the league together with his dad.
