Steve Nash unbothered by Kyrie Irving/Kevin Durant comments on Nets not having a head coach

Nash thinks the comments were misinterpreted.

According to Brooklyn Nets reporter Ian Begley, Steve Nash has said he wasn’t bothered by the ill-advised statement Kyrie Irving made on his hiring back in October.

Irving, heavily criticized in the wake of his comments, was speaking to teammate Kevin Durant on the latter’s podcast when he suggested the Nets don’t really have a head coach.

“Steve don’t know me from anything he heard or he’s heard someone else. We’ve worked out one time in 2014, but it’s grown as just a respectful relationship from afar. I saw him at the Hall of Fame two years ago, gave him a big hug and now he’s the head coach,” Irving said.

“And I think it’s also going to change the way we see coaches. I don’t really see us having a head coach. You know what I mean? KD could be a head coach. I could be a head coach.”

Durant responded: “Jacque Vaughn could do it one day. It’s a collaborative effort, I think, on our part.”

One could see how that might appear to be undermining but, per Begley, Nash isn’t bothered and reckons it was misinterpreted.

It’s going to be a very interesting season for the Nets, who could add a third marquee player to the roster before the term begins on December 22. Nash has said it’s unlikely Irving and Durant play 72 games.
