Real Madrid’s Sergio Rodriguez has missed his side’s tour of Central and Latin America due to thyroid problems.

Rodriguez has reportedly lost mass amounts of weight, which occurred during the FIBA World Cup, with many concerned over his countless poor performances as Spain crashed out at the quarter-final stage to France.

A timetable for his return is uncertain at this moment, but Rodriguez is undergoing tests at present.

The thyroid gland is a small butterfly-shaped gland in the neck, just in front of the windpipe (trachea). Its main function is to produce hormones that help regulate the body’s metabolism, a process that turns food into energy.

Rodriguez will hope to be back in time for the start of the Liga Endesa and Euroleague seasons, which both start in October.

Real Madrid are currently touring Central and Latin America over the next week as play exhibition games in Puerto Rico and Columbia.
