NBA analyst considers Obi Toppin a ‘steal’ similar to Kristaps Porzingis’ for the Knicks

The New York Knicks considered Obi Toppin as one of the best prospects in the 2020 Draft class. Having the eighth overall pick, the NY Knicks believed Toppin will be long gone by the time they get to pick.

However, the forward from Brooklyn eventually slipped past the first seven selections of the Draft and got selected by the Knicks.

As a result, Wally Szczerbiak, former NBA player and MSG Network analyst, talked on the NY Post about the former Dayton’s forward calling him a ‘steal’ for the Knicks similar to Kristaps Porzingis.

“Obi is ready to go and contribute,’’ Szczerbiak said. “The Knicks were very fortunate. It’s similar to [Kristaps] Porzingis falling to four.”

“People were wondering if KP would go top three but Philly took [Jahlil] Okafor [at three]. And [Porzingis] became an All-Star as a Knick. Hopefully the same situation works out. I foresee [Toppin] to be very effective and having a great career.”

Toppin spent two seasons in Dayton having an impressive last year with the Flyers. He averaged 17.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest in 64 appearances with Dayton.
