New Orleans Pelicans All-Star forward Brandon Ingram has agreed to a five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ingram passed on a more modest extension offer a year ago after arriving from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Anthony Davis trade, Wojnarowski notes.
He counted on a bigger role to elevate his performance and became the go-to scorer for the Pelicans, averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.0 steal per game in 62 games.
Ingram earned his first All-Star selection and was named the Most Improved Player of the Year in 2019-2020.
The 23-year-old is now the fourth member of the 2016 NBA Draft class to get a max deal, joining Denver Nuggets’ Jamal Murray, Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons and Toronto Raptors’ Pascal Siakam.
Ingram also becomes the fifth player to receive a max deal this offseason joining Sacramento Kings’ De’Aaron Fox, Utah Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell, Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Miami Heat’s Bam Adebayo.
