Wenyen Gabriel will leave Portland to join the New Orleans Pelicans on a two-year veteran minimum deal. ESPN’s Andrew Lopez broke out the news and details around the deal.

The Pelicans also kept guard Sindarius Thornwell on the roster, after joining the team during the NBA restart back in August. That’s the second team in a few months span for Gabriel, who joined the Blazers last February.

He was part of the deal that sent Kent Bazemore to Sacramento in exchange for Trevor Ariza. Gabriel appeared in 19 games and averaged 2.3 points and 2.2 rebounds.

He was a bigger part of Portland’s rotation, after the injury of Zach Collins. In the first round of the playoffs, he was featured in four games against the Lakers, two of them starts.

With that move, the Pelicans added more depth ahead of the 2020/21 season start with Thornwell and Gabriel being potentially deep-end role players in case of injuries.

Gabriel’s second season is a team option, as Lopez reported.
