The moratorium for the free-agent market is about to begin and the Los Angeles Lakers are willing to be aggressive to maintain the edge against their opponents.

The NBA champions need to guard against complacency according to general manager Rob Pelinka, who is willing to make the Lakers even better.

“I think it’s easy to fall into complacency when you win a title and to just say, ‘Hey, let’s just run it back,’” Pelinka said Thursday morning on a video conference call with reporters. “But at the same time, I think my school of thinking is always, ‘Let’s find ways we can become even better. Every offseason let’s get better.’”

The Lakers still need to make moves in order to remain at the top of their game, as they started with an aggressive trade for Dennis Schröder.

That move could indicate that Rajon Rondo will not remain with the Lakers, as there is plenty of interest around the league.

Kentavious-Caldwell Pope is also entering the market, with the franchise expecting to keep the 3-and-D wing in their roster.

On the other had, JaVale McGee ($4.2 million) opted into his third year with the Lakers, according to Shams Charania, while Dwight Howard will be a free agent on Friday.
