The Minnesota Timberwolves are trading James Johnson to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the Ricky Rubio trade, according to Shams Charania.

Johnson first opted into his $16 million deal for the 2020-2021 NBA season to clear the way for the trade for salary-matching purposes.

The 33-year-old was dealt to the Timberwolves at last year’s trade deadline from the Miami Heat.

In 14 games for the Timberwolves, Johnson was productive on offense and defense, averaging 12.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.

It’s unclear if the Thunder intend to keep Johnson, or if he will be on the move again or released.
