17-year-old sharpshooter Josh Ruggles will defend his three-point crown in Spain

Josh Ruggles (Wheaton, IL) will defend his crown in the 3 point contest in Spain. The 6’2” guard won last year contest beating professional players such as former Wolfpack Scott Wood, former Bulls Andrés Nocioni and former Aggies Jaycee Carroll

Josh Ruggles will again take part in the Three-Point contest of the Spanish League (27th september, Vitoria-Gasteiz). The 17-year-old phenomenon won the 2013 Three-Point Contest presented by Plátano de Canarias in the Spanish Supercup.

While just 16 years old, Josh Ruggles (2015 graduating class) beat North Carolina State Wolfpack career leader in three-point field-goals made Scott Wood in the first round (21-14), the former Chicago Bulls Andrés Nocioni in semifinals (18-17) and Utah State Aggies career leader in points, field goals made, three-point field-goals made and minutes played Jaycee Carroll after a tiebreaker round in the final (25-25; 14-12). Oklahoma City Thunder draftee Alex Abrines, Swedish sharpshooter Marcus Eriksson, Spanish three-pointer recordman Alberto Corbacho and former Spanish National Team Rafa Martínez also took part in the competition.

Ruggles was invited to the Spanish Three-Point Contest after setting an unofficial world record by hitting 135 three-pointers with two balls, one rebounder, in five minutes of shooting from the high school distance of 19’9”. While performing this feat, he shot an astounding 92% in the process (135-147).

The 17-year-old will compete in the 2014 Spanish Three-Point Contest right before his senior year in Wheaton Warrenville South High School. He currently has three full ride scholarship offers (Hillsdale College, Ferris State, and Grace College) and has numerous other American universities expressing interest.

According to NCAA rules, Ruggles did not get the 2013 4,000 euros prize. The ACB donated the prize to the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan, which severely affected the Philippines in 2013.
