The Houston Rockets are trading Trevor Ariza and the No. 16 pick tonight to the Detroit Pistons for a future first round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal now gives the Rockets the freedom to use their $9.3 million mid-level exception in free agency, Wojnarowski notes.

The Rockets are also purchasing the Pistons 2021 second round pick, via the Los Angeles Lakers, for $4.6 million.

In his first draft as Pistons general manager, Troy Weaver will be picking at Nos. 7 and 16, as the team looks to add young talent for the future.

Ariza, 35, who was just dealt to the Rockets from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Robert Covington, could potentially reach a buyout with the Pistons and sign elsewhere.

He averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game in 53 total games last season.
